The Currahee Artists' Guild Annual Spring Arts & Crafts Festival will be held on Saturday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on in the Studio on Doyle Street in Historic Downtown Toccoa. The event is a judged art show held in conjunction with the Cleo Alexander Floral Competition.
There will be more than 50 artists participating in the event featuring their original art work in a wide variety of media including oil and acrylic, watercolor, drawing, pastels, photography, mixed media, pottery and fine crafts. The Cleo Alexander Floral Competition for this spring show is a rose, hydrangea and lily. All art is for sale unless otherwise noted and a representative from the Currahee Artists' Guild will be available for assistance. Art awards for the art show and floral competition will be presented at 5 p.m.
Thanks to the Grass Root Arts Program, the guild will have four demonstrating artists with hands on activities for the community outside during the festival. Erin Holbrook will be demonstrating acrylic techniques, Lesley Smith watercolor, Linda Kelleher colored pencil and Jared Kaup pottery. So if you have always wanted to try different mediums, this will be a great opportunity thanks to the grant.
Other outdoor activities include: a judged student art show for grades K-12, which will be located under the covered breezeway on Doyle Street. This is open to all local students and the awards will be presented at 4:45 p.m. the day of the show. There will also be additional art for sale by artists from the Currahee Artists' Guild, activities by local non-profit organizations, live music and much more.
In addition to the festival, there will be a book signing by Mack Beasley, author of the book "False Justice" and his newly published book "Delayed Justice." Mack Beasley is a local writer from Eastanollee, GA.
