City of Toccoa recognizes Sixth Grade Essay Contest Winners

2009 Forth Place Winner: Mary Hannah Pyeatt

If I were mayor I would be honored since the mayor is elected by the people. This would show that the fine people of Toccoa believed in my choices and decisions to improve Toccoa in any way that I can. I also would not abuse my power but take on the responsibilities as a dedictated public server. I have three areas I would like to improve.

My first idea is to clean up the old buildings, and there are a few buildings that just need to go. Since our name is Toccoa, and Toccoa means beautiful, we have to live up to that name and clean up these old buidlings we have just laying around. Can't you just picture the whole entire town without all these empty, vacant rundown buildings here? I would also influence the owners of the Toccoa Cinema and Rose Lane to make a few changes. Some new enhancements maybe just the thing to make Toccoa look the best it can.

Another idea I would like to enhance is the field of entertainment. Just picture this: You're looking for something fun to do on a Friday night; my idea is every Friday night I would hire a band to play on the stage at the Henderson Falls Park. Everyone would bring home cooked meals to the pavilion for a cook out. That way Toccoa would attract more family oriented people.

My final idea would be to influence the city council to open up a few new places. That's why I would try to influence the city council and the citizens to open up a history museum that would reflect Toccoa's history. This idea could make our community better.

I hope and dream that maybe one day someone one will make my dreams a reality. I know that if we could all get together as one community we can make this a better place for everyone. I would also like to let all my readers know that all my ideas that I listed are what I would do if I were mayor.
