RE: Historic Plaque Ceremony at Terrell House

TOCCOA, GA – September 25, 2023 – Main Street Toccoa is pleased to announce that a historic plaque was awarded to the Terrell House, owned by First United Methodist Church in Toccoa. The dedication ceremony took place on Sunday, September 24 th after the morning worship service.

One of the oldest homes in Toccoa, the Terrell House is a sterling example of Craftsman bungalow architecture. The renovation process took two years, was funded largely through private donations, and has resulted in a beautifully restored home on both the interior and exterior.

Over one hundred attendees were present at the ceremony. Speakers included Reverend Brent White, Commissioner Gail Fry, Historic Preservation Chair Susan Turner, Chairman of the Trustees Mr. Larry Wiese, Ms. Maggie Meineke (granddaughter of the Terrells), and Assistant Planning Director Jeremy Ward.

“It is crucial,” remarked Commissioner Fry, “that we continue to prioritize historic preservation in Toccoa. Beautiful buildings such as the Terrell House are a key part of our heritage, and this one was especially important since it is one of only five homes over a hundred years old in our historic district.”

The Main Street Office is happy to answer any questions regarding the City of Toccoa’s Historic Plaque Program. Please contact Jeremy Ward at 706.898.6145 with any inquiries.
